Ireland
Ireland offers several types of visas depending on the duration and purpose of the visit. Ireland is unique in its position within the EU and EEA in that it is not part of the Schengen Agreement. Here is a summary of the primary visa categories:
Non-schengen Area: travelers must obtain a separate Irish visa, as schengen visas or residence permits do not permit entry into Ireland.
Visa waiver programs: Ireland offers a short stay visa waiver programme and participates in the British Irish Visa Scheme, allowing travelers with a valid UK visa to enter Ireland under certain conditions. However, this does not universally apply, and travelers should verify if their specific UK visa qualifies under these programs.
- Employment permit required: Before applying for a work visa, individuals must first secure an employment permit or atypical working permission from the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, depending on the nature of the work and duration of stay.
- Visa Application: Depending on one's nationality, a separate visa application may be necessary even after obtaining the employment permit.
- Registration Requirement: For stays exceeding 90 days, it is mandatory to register with the immigration authorities in Ireland.
Trusted Partner Initiative: This initiative streamlines the process for employers, EEA contractors, and persons making job offers who are frequently involved in hiring non-EEA nationals.
Entities granted Trusted Partner status are assigned a unique registration number. This status simplifies their future employment permit applications by allowing them to use a simplified application form where they need only provide their Trusted Partner Registration number instead of extensive employer details each time.
Interested parties must apply for Trusted Partner status, and upon approval, can benefit from faster processing and reduced bureaucracy when applying for work permits.
