Hudson McKenzie Charitable Foundation Trustee

Rahul Batra

Rahul Batra was born in 1979 in New Delhi, India. At the age of 24, he moved to Cardiff to pursue a law degree and later settled down in Surrey. He is currently based in Kingswood, Surrey.

Rahul was aware of his entrepreneurial streak even as a child being inspired by his father and grandfather’s business acumen and implemented various schemes making decent sums of money. At a very young age, he was involved in his family’s jewellery business selling gold and diamonds and he would frequently be seen buying raw gold bars and diamonds from wholesale dealers overseeing the business’s manufacturing operations. He often smirks, that he became an adult rather too quickly.

Rahul saw his father, who was also a Visting Professor-in-law at the University of Delhi, being heavily involved in charity work and he would often accompany his father to various places where they would organise donation camps for the poor, offering food, money and blankets. Poor people would queue outside his family house in Delhi every morning due to his father and grandfather’s charitable efforts and this really touched his heart. His family made their name in charitable work having very strong principles which made them command enormous respect in the society. Rahul found this very inspiring, and he decided, at a very early age, that charity to humanity was his calling.

“If anyone would go to his father with a genuine need, his father would never say no and would go all out to help."

His grandfather, an astute businessman and a politician was an avid fan of polo. Rahul would frequently accompany him to polo grounds in Delhi. His interest in horses grew simultaneously as his entrepreneurial spirit.

On the academic front, Rahul pursued a bachelor’s degree in economics and a bachelor’s degree in law, both from University of Delhi. Upon being admitted as an Advocate at the Bar Council of India, he joined the Supreme Court of India as Junior State Counsel representing several Indian states dealing primarily in constitutional law matters.

He later completed a master’s in law at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom and subsequently qualified as a Solicitor of England & Wales in 2005.

Rahul’s stint with corporate immigration began at Deloitte LLP in London and he subsequently joined EY LLP. He later founded Hudson McKenzie in 2010. Over the last 15 years, the firm has won numerous awards and accolades for delivering outstanding service. Presently, he serves as the Executive CEO & Managing Partner of the firm.

Since 2010, whilst Rahul remains involved in several other businesses, and is pursuing his passion for breeding horses and extending livery stables, his primary focus has always been charitable and philanthropic work. Coming from a privileged background, he experienced a greater desire to donate and volunteer his time to various charities and food banks throughout the UK and India. He firmly believes that in a world that often feels divided and uncertain, one thing remains constant: the power of kindness.

“Every act of charity, no matter how small, ripples out and touches lives in ways we may never fully understand”.

In 2025, Rahul took a step further and set up Hudson McKenzie Charitable Foundation in memory of his late father along with other trustees and friends, Erica Catrena and Jalpesh Thakrar who have a similar vision in solving humanitarian problems and preservation of the environment.

Through his charity, Hudson McKenzie Charitable Foundation, Rahul’s present focus is on children (by way of relieving poverty, education, health and saving lives) and protection of the environment, both in the UK and abroad.
