Uzbekistan introduces a new Golden visa

From 1st June 2025, Uzbekistan will officially join other countries offering a “Golden Visa”, a residence-by-investment program aimed at drawing foreign capital and bolstering economic growth.

The new initiative, introduced by presidential decree, enables qualifying foreign nationals to secure a long-term residence permit in exchange for a substantial financial investment. It's a strategic move to position Uzbekistan as a more competitive destination for global investors, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals looking for long-term stability and regional access.

Under the scheme, applicants can obtain a five-year residence permit by making a direct financial contribution to the Uzbek economy. The minimum threshold is:

  • $250,000 USD for the main applicant.

  • $150,000 USD for each dependent family member, including spouses, children, and even parents.

The investment can reportedly be directed into approved sectors such as real estate, private enterprises, or government-backed development projects, aligning investor interests with Uzbekistan’s broader economic agenda.

Why Uzbekistan?

While golden visa schemes are not new, with Portugal, the UAE, and Canada having longstanding programs, Uzbekistan’s entry into this space marks a significant shift in the region. It reflects the country’s commitment to opening its economy to international stakeholders and diversifying foreign direct investment.

Notably, the Uzbek government has emphasised a streamlined application process, aiming to reduce administrative hurdles. This is particularly attractive in contrast to programs in other jurisdictions that have become more restrictive or politically contentious in recent years.

As with any investment-based immigration route, due diligence is crucial. Applicants should carefully assess the structure of their investment, understand the legal framework, and consult with qualified professionals before proceeding. Uzbekistan’s program is new, and implementation details, including eligible sectors and application timelines, will likely evolve in the coming months.
