Singapore’s immigration framework continues to evolve, with changes affecting both employers and foreign workers. Staying compliant with these changes is essential to avoid disruption to employment, travel, and legal status.
A recent update from Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower outlines the requirements and process for replacing a Work Permit card that has been lost, stolen, or damaged.
When is a Work Permit card replacement required?
Losing or damaging a Work Permit card can disrupt a worker’s ability to work and travel. To remain compliant with Singapore immigration requirements, employers must act promptly and follow the Ministry of Manpower’s replacement process.
Employers are required to apply for a replacement Work Permit card within one week if the card is lost, stolen, or damaged. Applications can be submitted by the employer or an appointed Employment Agent. For an overview of immigration routes and residency options, see our guide to immigration in Singapore.
Key Points at a Glance
- When to apply: Within 1 week of loss, theft, or damage
- Who can apply: Employer or Employment Agent
- Processing time: Immediate for most cases
- Card collection: 4 working days after approval
Why This Update Matters
Timely replacement of a Work Permit card is critical to maintaining immigration compliance in Singapore. Delays or failure to follow the prescribed process may disrupt a worker’s ability to work, travel, or re-enter Singapore.
Employers are therefore encouraged to ensure appropriate internal processes are in place and to stay informed of updates issued by the Ministry of Manpower.
Replacement Fees (Inclusive of GST)
- Damaged card: SGD 65.40
- Lost or stolen card:
- SGD 109 (first occurrence)
- SGD 327 (subsequent occurrences)
- Fees are non-refundable
Important Notes
- A police report is required for stolen cards.
- If the card is lost overseas, MOM must be informed immediately to issue a temporary entry letter.
- Replacement requests are subject to approval, and an interview may be required.
- If a lost card is later found, it must be returned to MOM.
Application and Collection
Applications are submitted via WP Online, with payment made through GIRO or eNETS. Once approved, the worker must collect the replacement card in person for lost or stolen cards at the MOM Services Centre. For damaged cards, an authorised representative may collect the card on the worker’s behalf.
Employers are encouraged to have workers activate their digital Work Permit via the SGWorkPass app, which reduces the risk of card loss or damage.
