Uruguay
Uruguay offers several types of visas depending on the duration and purpose of the visit. Here is a summary of the primary visa categories:
For travelers visiting Uruguay for tourism purposes.Valid for up to 90 days and able to be extended once for same period of time. Some nationalities are exempt from needing a visa and can enter Argentina visa-free for short stays.
It allows a stay for a maximum period of 180 days, if the reason for the trip is study, work and/or religion. Once the activity that motivates the request is accredited, a certificate is issued in order to process the Provisional Identity Sheet with the National Civil Identification Office.
Temporary Residence: Valid for more than 180 days, but less than 2 years (it is possible to renew for two additional years). Appliable for study and work purposes.
Temporary Residence MERCOSUR : Similar to Temporary Residence but with fewer requirements for MERCOSUR nationals. Also valid for more than 180 days and less than two years, with the possibility of renewal.
Permanent Resident Visa: Enables foreign citizens to reside permanently in Uruguay. Non-Spanish speakers must have an interpreter during the application interview.
Permanent Resident Visa MERCOSUR: Administrative pathway for MERCOSUR nationals and their relatives aiming for permanent residency in Uruguay, which includes obtaining a Uruguayan identity card.
Designed for self-employed individuals or employees of foreign companies, permitting stays of up to six months with the possibility of a six-month extension.
