Malta offers several types of visas depending on the duration and purpose of the visit. Luxembourg is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Here is a summary of the primary visa categories:
Citizens of certain non-EU countries must hold a short-stay visa when travelling to the schengen area. This visa is required for individuals attending business meetings, conferences, trade fairs, seminars. A schengen visa is an entry permit for non-EU nationals to make a short, temporary visit of up to 90 days in any 180-day period to a country in the schengen area.
- Employment Visa (Single Permit): Combines work and residence authorization, allowing non-EU nationals to reside and work in Malta.
- EU blue card: Targets highly qualified non-EU professionals with a job offer in Malta, facilitating a longer-term stay with employment.
- Self-employment visa: For entrepreneurs initiating their own business or engaging in self-employment in Malta.
- Temporary residence permit: Typically linked to specific purposes like employment, study, or family reunification, this permit is necessary for non-EU nationals planning to stay in Malta for more than three months.
- Permanent residence permit: Granted after legally and continuously residing in Malta for five years, meeting specific criteria related to the stay and integration.
- Malta permanent residence programme (MPRP): Allows non-EU nationals to gain permanent residency through significant investment in Malta’s economy, including real estate and charitable contributions.
- Global residence programme (GRP): Offers a special tax status and residence permit to non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who meet the property and tax criteria in Malta.
- Nomad residence permit: For non-EU nationals working remotely, this permit allows them to reside in Malta for up to a year, with the possibility of renewal.
