Italy offers several types of visas depending on the duration and purpose of the visit. Italy is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Here is a summary of the primary visa categories:
Schengen business visa: Citizens of certain non-EU countries must hold a short-stay visa when travelling to the schengen area. This visa is required for individuals attending business meetings, conferences, trade fairs, seminars. A schengen visa is an entry permit for non-EU nationals to make a short, temporary visit of up to 90 days in any 180-day period to a country in the schengen area.
- Intra-company transfer: For employees transferred to an Italian branch of a multinational company.
- EU blue card: For highly-skilled non-EU nationals in professions requiring high qualifications and offering a salary at least 1.5 times the average gross annual salary.
- Work permit for service agreement: For individuals coming to Italy under a contract to provide services.
- Digital nomad visa: For remote workers who wish to live in Italy while continuing to work for companies based outside of Italy.
Primarily for temporary roles in agriculture, tourism, and similar sectors that require increased labor during peak seasons.
Targeted at innovative entrepreneurs interested in establishing startups in Italy. Applicants must demonstrate that their business idea is innovative and viable and that they have sufficient financial resources.
Citizenship by descent (Jure Sanguinis): Available to individuals with Italian ancestry, provided they can prove an unbroken line of descent from an Italian ancestor who had not renounced their citizenship before the birth of the next generation. Applications are generally submitted at the Italian consulate in the applicant’s country of residence.
