Taiwan has introduced a new digital nomad visa, providing remote workers with the opportunity to live and work in Taiwan. To qualify, applicants must be from a visa-exempt country and intend to work for a company outside of Taiwan.
Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria: have previously been granted a digital nomad visa by another country, earn at least USD 40,000 annually (for those over 30) or USD 20,000 annually (for those aged 20-30) in the last two years.
The visa allows an initial stay of three months, with the possibility of extending it to a maximum of six months. The application process involves completing an online application and submitting a printed copy to the relevant authorities, with processing typically taking 5 to 8 business days.
However, applicants are not allowed to sponsor dependents, and visa holders are prohibited from working for local companies in Taiwan unless they obtain a separate work permit.
