Slovenia is preparing to welcome remote workers with the introduction of its first digital nomad visa, expected to go live on 21st November 2025. The visa will allow non-EU/EEA citizens to live and work in Slovenia for up to 12 months, provided their income comes from outside the country.
This will position Slovenia as a fresh contender in Central Europe’s remote work scene, joining Hungary as one of the few in the region offering such a permit. The visa is aimed at freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote employees, particularly those looking for a more relaxed and affordable European base.
While final eligibility criteria are still pending, applicants will likely need to show proof of remote employment, sufficient income, health insurance, and a clean criminal record, as is required from other digital nomad visas around the world. The visa will not be renewable, but reapplication may be possible after a six-month gap outside Slovenia. Family members may also be eligible, as long as they, too, are financially independent of Slovenian employers.
