Saudi Arabia enforces new exit visa rules

Saudi Arabia has revised its regulations for residents applying for an exit visa. Under the new rules, individuals must have at least 30 days remaining on their resident permit before they can apply. Previously, foreign nationals were allowed to apply for an exit visa until the final day of their permit’s validity.

These changes mean that anyone with less than 30 days left on their resident permit must renew it before requesting an exit visa. For those with a permit valid between 30 and 60 days, the exit visa will be issued for the remaining time on their permit. If a resident permit has more than 60 days left, the exit visa will be valid for 60 days. Unlike standard permits, premium resident permits remain exempt from exit visa requirements.

The updated policy may require some foreign nationals to leave Saudi Arabia sooner than they anticipated. It also ensures that all foreign residents exit the country before their permit expires, preventing situations where individuals overstay without a valid work permit. For both foreign employees and their employers, these changes highlight the importance of forward planning to avoid last-minute complications with exit procedures.
