New Zealand changes its Investor visa rules

New Zealand is set to introduce adjustments to its Active Investor Plus Visa from 1st April 2025, aiming to attract high-value investors and simplify the application process. These changes, informed by feedback from investors and industry stakeholders, focus on expanding investment opportunities while reducing associated risks.

The revamped visa will introduce two new investment categories: Growth and Balanced. The Growth category requires a minimum investment of NZD 5 million, whereas the Balanced category requires at least NZD 10 million. The Balanced category will now accommodate a wider array of investments, including bonds and property projects such as new residential developments and commercial or industrial properties.

To make the visa more appealing, investors opting for these categories will face fewer immigration constraints, including reduced residency requirements. Additionally, the investment timeframe has been streamlined and applicants will need to finalise their investments within six months of receiving initial approval, with an option to extend for another six months if necessary.

One significant update is the elimination of the English language requirement, making the visa more accessible to a broader range of investors. The online application system will be updated to reflect these changes, ensuring a smooth transition.

Further details on the implementation process will be provided in March 2025.
