Russia offers several types of visas depending on the duration and purpose of the visit. Here is a summary of the primary visa categories:
This visa facilitates entry into Russia for business-related activities such as seminars, conferences, meetings, and negotiations. The issuance of this visa requires an invitation from either the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (Russian FMS) or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (Russian MFA). Additionally, business people and representatives of business organizations can obtain this visa based on a written request from their organization.
The visa can be:
- Single-entry or double-entry, valid for up to 90 days.
- Multiple-entry, valid for up to one year, unless specified differently by an international agreement of the Russian Federation.
Ordinary work visa is issued for an entry into the Russian Federation for work purposes based on an invitation issued by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (Russian FMS) with a possibility of a further prolongation by the Russian FMS agency on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The basis for a prolongation may be an employment agreement or a civil contract, either work or service, concluded according to the Russian Federation legislation.
Work visa may only be single-entry or multiple-entry for a period up to 90 days (except the visas for highly qualified specialists).
Highly skilled work permit for Work visas for highly-skilled specialists are issued to citizens of foreign countries and stateless persons entering the Russian Federation for a long-term work purposes on the basis of an invitation issued by Ministry of Interior of the Russian Federation (MVD of Russia). The applicant has to request this kind of invitation from his Russian employer.
