US suspends non-immigrant US visas in Russia
The US Government has recently announced that all non-immigrant visa operations in Russia will be suspended from 23rd August 2017 onwards. This harsh decision was a direct consequence of the Russian Government’s personnel cap in the US mission, whereby they requested the US Embassy to cut back its staff by two-thirds.
All appointments which were made for non-immigrant visas in Russia were cancelled by the US throughout Russia, from 9am on 21st August 2017. The plan is for visa interviews to commence at the US Consulate in Moscow only from 1st September 2017. However, suspension will remain in effect at St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok indefinitely.
