The UK Home Office has recently announced further information in relation to the EU Settlement Scheme.

Following from the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, recent announcement that all applications for the EU Settlement Scheme will henceforth be free, the scheme is set to have its ‘full opening’ from 30th March 2019. All applicants from outside of the EU can apply from 9th April 2019.

So far, 150,000 applications have been completed, in which any applicants who have paid the initial fee will be refunded after the full opening at the end of March, a day after Brexit on the 29th.

Some of the statistics released by the UKVI following from the initial ‘test phase’ of the EU Settlement Scheme are:

  • 75% of applications received their decision within three days.
  • 80% of applicants who used the online application state that it was easy to complete online.

When preparing to complete the online application form, applicants will be requested to:

  • Prove their identity
  • Demonstrate UK residency
  • Declare criminal convictions (if any)

Any applicants who cannot apply online are prompted to send the requested documents via post.
