British Pre-Brexit rush for German nationality

May 24, 2018 | Immigration, Latest Thinking, News

Since the announcement of Brexit, the UK has seen a 162% increase in the number of British nationals applying for German nationality.

It seems that many Britons do not want to lose the benefit of being part of the EU and whilst Britain is still part of the European Union, they are applying for Germany nationality to ensure they can hold dual nationality. Once Britain leaves the EU on the planned date of March 2019, Germany will no longer allow dual nationality with Britain.

As a company we have had many German nationals who after being in the UK for over 20 years have opted to apply for Naturalisation, mainly as they know if they do it whilst Britain are still part of the EU it will allow them to hold dual nationality.
