Online questions for EU citizens announced

The settled status of EU citizens shall now be decided via online questions, post-Brexit.

An ongoing concern of many EU nationals currently living in the UK is how they will be affected once the UK leaves the EU next year.

However, the Home Secretary recently announced that to stay in the UK, current EU citizens shall have to answer three questions online, as part of the requirement process to remain.

The three questions put forth shall be surrounding the following:

  • That the EU citizen can prove their identity
  • Whether the EU citizen has any criminal convictions
  • If the EU citizen currently lives within the UK or not

The new scheme, post-Brexit, shall be accessible either online or through a mobile app, with decisions being made regarding the granting of settled status of EU citizens in an approximately two-week turnover.

Over 3.5 Million applications are expected through this new scheme, in which all EU citizens living within the UK shall be subjected to.

At present, the price of each application is £65.00 per adult and £32.50 per child. However if a EU national already has a residency permit or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), then the application will be free.
