New visa restrictions introduced for migrants with unpaid NHS debts

October 25, 2011 | News

In response to a consultation carried out last year, the UK Border Agency will shortly implement new rules to force migrants to settle their NHS debts.

Migrants who fail to settle outstanding bills of £1000 or more will not be allowed to remain in the UK until the debt has been cleared, nor will migrants be allowed to enter the UK. Plans are being implemented for information sharing between the NHS and the UK Border Agency. Employers must ensure their sponsored migrants are apprised of the new rules to avoid leave to enter/remain being invalidated.
