Legal Update: Criminal Legal Aid Review Delayed
The UK Government recently announced that the ongoing review on Criminal Legal Aid will not be ready until 2020.
The review, which began at the beginning of 2019, on Criminal Legal Aid comes a response from the UK’s Ministry of Justice to the House of Commons ‘Justice Select Committee Report’.
One of the recommendations by the Select Committee, in which UK’s Ministry of Justice also agrees with, is the ‘consideration of remuneration’ in regard to the use of ‘unused’ material.
However, the Review on Criminal Legal Aid is specifically targeting the reduction of fees and a simultaneous increased spending on fees for Criminal Legal Aid. This is particularly due to the lack of Criminal Defence Lawyers entering the legal sector.
