Visa Application Centres to re-open

On Thursday 28th May 2020, the Home Office proclaimed updated guidance for sponsors, visa customers and holders inside and out of the UK and short-term residents in the UK. The UK Government website now confirms that Visa Application Centres (VACs) will resume operations and re-open as of 1st June 2020, alongside some UK Visa and Citizenship Application Centres (UKVCAS).

If you are overseas

As the UK government attempts to lift global travel and public health restrictions, UK Visas, and Immigration (UKVI) are taking a localised approach. This means that they will begin the process of resuming services depending on whether local factors permit UKVI to do so.

Because of this phased approach in terms of recommencing services, not all UKVI services will be available immediately nor operate at full capacity. Services will resume operations initially in a few localities where local restrictions allow such services to operate again. Depending on what occurs after the reopening of certain VACs, the UK government will then reassess the situation on whether to open more VACs as part of Phase 2.

The following VACs will reopen as of 1st June:

  • Bangkok
  • Beijing
  • Berlin
  • Brisbane
  • Canberra
  • Chongqing
  • Dusseldorf
  • Fiji
  • Guangzhou
  • Hong Kong
  • Kuala Lumpur
  • Melbourne
  • Minsk
  • Munich
  • Perth
  • Shanghai
  • Sydney
  • Taipei
  • Ukraine

If you are in the UK

For existing visa customers, some UKVCAS will recommence services from 1st June 2020. Service and Support Centres are still closed, and this will be subject to review. In addition, priority and super priority services will still not be running until further review.

Individuals will be informed about what to do if they have made appointments at UKVACS which are now closed and what to do if their local UKVAC has now reopened. Individuals may be offered an alternative or another appointment at another service point if the local UKVAC is still closed because of the coronavirus. This does not impede on individual immigration statuses.

The following centres will re-open as of 1st June 2020:

  • Birmingham
  • Birmingham Premium Lounge
  • Chelmsford
  • Croydon
  • Exeter
  • Leeds
  • London Mark Lane Premium Lounge
  • London Victoria
  • Manchester Fountain Street Enhanced Service Point
  • Manchester Premium Lounge
  • Sheffield
  • Southampton
