Applications for Tier 1 ‘Exceptional Talent’ Visa doubled
The UK Government announced today that double the number of Tier 1 ‘Exceptional Route’ visa’s will be available for individuals who can demonstrate ‘exceptional talent’ within the technological, scientific and creative industries. This now means that the number of visas that are available for the Tier 1 ‘Exceptional Talent’ route will increase from the original 1,000 a year to 2,000.
The change is based upon the government’s ambitions to enhance the UK’s global mobility status, so that the UK remains at the top of these selected industries. Furthermore, by increasing the number of visas, this will simultaneously boost the UK economy, by attracting more highly talented individuals to the UK. From this change, the UK government also aims to ensure that the visa application process itself is a smooth and efficient one, so to handle the increase of visas.
The increase in the number of visas shall be made available for those ambitious individuals who are recognised by the following five UK organisations:
- Tech City UK
- Arts Council England
- The British Academy
- The Royal Society
- The Royal Academy of Engineering
Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, comments:
“The UK’s innovative industries, including the thriving digital technology sector, are at the center of our industrial strategy and making sure that businesses in these fields have access to exceptional talent from across the world is vitally important”
