Higher salary threshold announced for employment pass in Singapore

August 11, 2016 | Immigration, Latest Thinking, News

An Employment Pass for Singapore is designed to allow foreign professionals at a senior level to work in Singapore. The requirement at present is that they earn at least $3,300 per month, however effective January 2017 this threshold will be increased to $3,600 a month. For applicants who are highly skilled the salary threshold will be much higher, this set in-line with their work experience and skill set.

For those who currently hold an Employment Pass the following will apply:

  • If your pass expires before 1 January 2017, you will be able to renew for up to 3 years, based on the existing Employment Pass eligibility criteria.
  • For those whose passes expire between 1 January 2017 and 30 June 2017, you can renew for 1 years, based on the existing Employment Pass eligibility criteria.
  • Anyone whose passes expires after 30 June 2017 will need to meet the new eligibility criteria for renewals.

How to check if you are eligible for a pass

Ministry of Manpower have an online tool which can be used by employers and applicants to check if they qualify to apply for an Employment Pass. This tool is fairly accurate and if it shows that you are not eligible, it is not advised to submit an application. Ffor those who receive a positive result, the chances of the application being approved are around 90%.

The tool will be updated in November 2016 with the new eligibility requirements.
